Semuliki National Park
Uganda
Semuliki is an eastern extension of the Ituri forest. Hot springs, a bird list that includes Central African species, and a park that most Uganda itineraries skip because it is not Instagram-obvious. Birders should not skip it.
The Sempaya hot springs are the easy visit. Serious birding is a forest walk with a specialist guide. Combine with Kibale so you are not driving out here for a single steam vent.
This is a half-day to a full day, not a three-night base. We say that up front.
Wildlife
Ituri forest birds, hot-spring landscapes, and Central African species that barely reach East Africa.
What we book here
- Hot springs visit
- Forest birding
- Semliki River walks
- Combine with Kibale or the Rwenzori foothills
Where we put you
Semliki Safari Lodge, or sleep in Fort Portal and visit as a day trip from Kibale.
Getting there
West of Fort Portal toward the DRC border. From Kibale it is practical. From Bwindi it is not.
How we combine it
Kibale chimps, Toro crater lakes, Rwenzori day walks.
Best time
Birding is productive most of the year; trails are heavier in the long rains.
